The natural potential of Sausal

The grapes that will one day become our wines and sparkling wines are grown in three different wine-growing locations. In the vineyards on Kogelberg, around the wine town of Leibnitz, in those in Neudorf in the municipality of St. Andrä im Sausal, and in those on Flamberg, above St. Nikolai. These three locations differ significantly in terms of terroir. However, they all share one thing in common:

100% Sausal origin

A few grapes, well cared for

The age of the grapevines is of great importance to us, which is why all our single-vineyard wines come from vineyards with vines that are at least 15 years old. In fact, most of our single-vineyard wines are from vineyards with vines that are 30 to 35 years old.

The advantages of age primarily relate to lower yields. Older grapevines grow minimally, produce fewer leaves, and, most importantly, fewer fruits. Old vines root extremely deep and extensively. This allows them to access water and nutrients more effectively, even in times of limited rainfall, providing ideal nourishment to the plant. Additionally, the “treasures” brought up from the soil are divided among very few grapes
